FINANCIAL INFORMATION

FAFSA
Tuition & Residence Fees

Bank Account

For American students studying at St. Thomas, the full cost of tuition, room and board is close to $20,000.00 per year. That is significantly less than a small, residential, liberal arts college in the United States. Small class sizes, exceptional and available professors, quality housing, and a leading scholarship programme that offers 60% of students an entrance scholarship, St. Thomas offers American students an outstanding international education close to home.

FAFSA

United States citizens studying at St. Thomas are eligible for Federal Student Aid (FSA). Both Stafford Loans for students and Parent PLUS Loans can be used to pay for your expenses at STU.

The loan application process will be exactly the same as if you were applying to a US institution. However, please be advised that in Canada we make scholarship and student loan decisions separately. We will not dictate to you the terms of your financial aid package. We will offer you any scholarships for which you are eligible, and then afterwards, if necessary, we will help facilitate your student loan applications.

When filing for your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) our FSA school code is G06682. You can fill out your application online at www.fafsa.ed.gov

For information on scholarship, please visit the “Admissions and Scholarships” section of this website.

TUITION & RESIDENCE FEES

These fees include all the regular charges of the University for the full academic year for registration, tuition, libraries and other academic services, athletics, creative arts, health services, and accident insurance. The only additional fee is the students’ union fee to support student organizations.

BANK ACCOUNT

Once you arrive, you’ll want to set up a Canadian bank account. A local bank account will make it easier for you to manage your money while at school. Go to any branch with two pieces of identification, including one piece of photo identification.

Canada has a several major banks, each offering a variety of services. Take a few minutes and decide which bank is the best fit for you. Keep in mind that the Bank of Montreal has a branch right on campus, as well as a bank machine conveniently located in Sir James Dunn Hall. Several other banks are within walking distance of campus:

· Scotiabank (10 minute walk from campus)

· Royal Bank (15 minute walk from campus)

· TD Canada Trust (15 minute walk from campus)

· CIBC (25 minute walk from campus)

Once you open your account you’ll receive a debit card, which you can use at any ATM in Canada; you’ll also use your debit card when you want to pay for something using direct payment.

Major American credit cards from companies like Visa and Mastercard can be used in Canada just like in the U.S.
