Business Programs

The world of business is a dynamic and creative one, and offers career opportunities in every part of the world.   If you are interested in accounting, finance, business management, event management or office administration, we have a program for you.   You can obtain a certificate or diploma credential and get a job immediately, or use the diploma to enter a university program in the third year. Our classes are small and allow for individualized attention that helps you to succeed. All programs have a work experience component arranged by the Business Department, so that every graduate has Canadian work experience upon leaving the program. Business Administration Diploma

Our Business and Administration diploma is among the top Two-Year business programs offered in Canada. The program is designed to provide students with the skills, abilities, and knowledge of business to enable them to be successful in a variety of roles, including that of accountant, financial services specialist, manager and entrepreneur. The first year provides a solid base from which to pursue a specialization in the second year. Specializations include: Accounting, Financial Services, General Business, and Risk Management.

Graduates from this program can go on to the world of work or further study at Mount Royal University, University of Lethbridge, Grant MacEwan University,  Athabasca University,  SAIT, and Royal Roads University. Transfer credits are also available from the Certified Management Accountants, Certified General Accountants, Canadian Payroll Association, Canadian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping, and the Institute of Canadian Bankers.

Event Management Diploma

Party! That word is the fuel that fires up event planners around the world. Whether it's conferences, symposiums, weddings, conferences, trade shows, or social gatherings, event planners know how to make the best event possible. Our Event Management Diploma program is designed to provide students with the skills, abilities, and knowledge to organize, manage, and promote global events, conventions and trade shows, weddings, meetings, and expos. This program was developed in conjunction with members of the Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Special Events Society.

Graduates from this program can go on to the world of work or further study at Athabasca University and  Royal Roads University. Graduates also have the option of writing the Alberta Tourism Human Resource Council (ATEC) certification exam.

Accounting and Financial Management Certificate

The financial management sector is a large and important part of Canadian and international economies. Demand for accounting and financial management skills exist in all parts of the economy, and employers are in need of qualified representatives. This one year full-time certificate program provides you with the practical skills and knowledge to succeed.

Graduates from this program can go on to the second year of the Business Administration Diploma at Bow Valley College.

Human Resource Management Certificate

Become part of one of the most essential departments in any organization and discover the many sides of human resources. This program gives students the practical skills and experience they need to succeed as recruiters, salary administrators, and human resources coordinators. The human resources field is growing rapidly. Expand your career horizons and grow your career.

Graduates from this program can go on to the world of work or further study at Athabasca University.

Administrative Professional Certificate

Be the glue that holds the office together. The role of Administrative Assistants is growing more complex. Their ability to multi-task, develop strong interpersonal relationships, and their sharp eye for detail make them an invaluable asset to the office environment. Students learn the practical skills they need to be an effective member of any office environment. As such, employability upon graduation from this program is high.

Graduates from this program can go on to the world of work or further study at Keyano College, Lethbridge College, Medicine Hat College, Red Deer College, SAIT, and Athabasca University.

Health Care Aide Certificate

The Health Care Aide program will assist you in becoming an essential part of a health care team.  The program involves a combination of delivery models including labs and clinical placements.  The curriculum was developed by the Government of Alberta and upon graduation students receive a Bow Valley College/Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate.

Practical Nurse Diploma

Practical Nurses are integral part of the Alberta health care team.  As members of a self-regulating profession they use knowledge and skill to assess, interpret and develop client care, perform a wide variety of prescribed medical treatments and advocate for safe, comfortable environments and care for their clients.  Our Practical Nurse program educates you to provide high-quality nursing in acute care hospitals, long term care facilities and in the community.

Graduates from this program go on to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE) to be eligible for licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Early Learning and Child Care Certificate and Diploma

Be part of this internationally recognized award winning program. In 2009, Bow Valley College received an Innovation of the Year award from The League of Innovation in the Community College for it's newly developed curriculum. Featuring blended learning opportunities including in class work, online delivery, and work experience practicums, this program prepares you to work in diverse contexts with young children and families.

Graduates of the certificate are eligible to be certified through Alberta Children and Youth Services as a Child Development Worker and may apply for entry into Bow Valley College's Early Learning and Child Care Diploma program. Please note that successful completion of the Certificate program is a requirement for the Diploma program.

Graduates of the diploma are eligible to be certified through Alberta Children and Youth Services as a Child Development Supervisor.

Graduates of the Certificate may go on to further study at Bow Valley College, Mount Royal University, Lakeland College, Grand Prairie Regional College, Lethbridge College, Medicine Hat College, Mount Royal University, Prairie Bible College, College of the North Atlantic, Heritage College, Red Deer College, and St. Joseph College.

Graduates of the Diploma program may go on to futher study at Athabasca University, University of Victoria, Ryerson University, and Mount Royal University.
